How To Best Fight Fatigue
As promised, here’s my first post dedicated to
Fatigue
So what is fatigue, who gets, it, and how can we combat it? Let’s do this!
What is fatigue:
Welp. My web browser defines fatigue as “tiredness/weariness.” NAH FAM. If you have suffered fatigue than you know first-hand it’s not just being “really tired”. It’s more intense. Like trying to function and move in quicksand. Imagine you’re in a slowmo video, times that by 3 and everyone around you is at regular speed. Fatigue is THAT intense. I’ve experienced it to the point where I felt too weak to even lift my arms. It’s debilitating. So what is fatigue? A monster in and of itself.
Did you know that fatigue even has its own set of symptoms? Like HOW could a symptom have symptoms? It just does. And some of those symptoms include the following:
chronic tiredness
headache
dizziness
muscle weakness
slowed reflexes and responses
moodiness, such as irritability
appetite loss
blurry vision
poor concentration
low motivation
Fatigue typically comes in bouts and appears as it wishes. Sometimes it visits for days, sometimes a few hours, and for some it’s a chronic (meaning everyday) occurrence.
Who gets it:
It is one of the most common symptoms of many autoimmune diseases like Multiple Sclerosis. Folks with thyroid disorders can also experience fatigue at its worse. Take it from me, I watched my husband struggle for almost a year to balance his thyroid hormone using medication. There were mornings he couldn’t get out of bed, the fatigue hit so hard.
Having said that, anyone can experience fatigue. Yes “healthy” or not. Poor diet, lack of sleep, and stress can all be contributing factors. Aka going through life *insert nervous laughter*
How can you combat fatigue:
GOOD NEWS! There are ways you can combat and learn to cope with fatigue! Sounds almost impossible, but bear with me! Below is a super condensed list of the best ways to fight fatigue made by other fatigue warriors! (Who better to learn from than others actually battling it, right?!)
When I asked this question on my IG stories, the answers came flooding in! With tips and tricks, and these were the top methods other fighters use to combat and cope with fatigue. The most important thing(s) I hope you take away from reading this is:
1) REST! When fatigue hits, rest. Remember rest is productive!
2) Listen to your body and don’t be afraid to give it what it’s literally demanding. Don’t fight it, embrace it.
I’m a firm believer that there’s no such thing as a “quick fix” or just “one way” to tackle a problem. No.
I believe it takes little bits to make a whole! So a little rest, a little exercise, eating clean, some vitamins (ok who am I kidding? A lot of vitamins!) and some mindfulness sounds like a great start to lowering fatigue days and learning how to live life through the struggles.
Truth is, fatigue is tough. But so are we! When we put our best foot forward for ourselves, for our health, our future gets brighter and brighter! So try these methods! Give it a go, remain optimistic and keep trying. Do NOT give up.
I’ll be sharing another post that goes more in depth about these methods and more tricks to combating fatigue later on so stay tuned!
All my love,
Arose
